Honestly (IMHO) I don't think anything went really
wrong with Sir Marc. I think he just ended up using
his Eddie Cochran and Jimmy McCracklin influences to
better effect. His warble in the early days is almost
unlistenable to me. Once he got it together (to these
ears) on the remarkable Beard Of Stars LP (here comes
the electric again!) he really began to shine.
While at the height of his cognac and blow abuse he
did "overindulge" in his rhyming but I think he still
managed to pull off some remarkable productions.
Zinc Alloy and even the oft criticised Futuristic
Dragon have some glorious moments...
While we may not have had "3rd Degree" available,
Napier-Bell whored out every other cut Marc did...and
like I said, most are pretty bad. There is one other
psych one that I was looking thru my stuff to find but
can't... damn.
Yeah, if there ever was a guy who had his stuff fucked
over then it's Marc.
