There's a double CD called "The Essential Etta James" that came out in
1994, which has all of the essentials and more (yes, including "Mellow
Fellow"). 44 songs! I think it is still in print, too.

I'm quite a fan, and I tend to like her stuff beyond the dancefloor
friendly material. Current fave by her is "Baby What You Want Me To Do".

Hmmmm, don't know it off the top of my head.

My top 5 Herbie Hancock albums:
1. Inventions & Dimensions (1963 Blue Note)
2. Taking Off (1962 Blue Note)
3. Speak Like A Child (1968 Blue Note)
4. Fat Albert Rotunda (1969 Warner Brothers)
5. The Prisoner (1969 Blue Note)
But you should also go back and pick up that copy of "Empyrean Isles".

Picking out Jimmy Smith's best LP would be difficult. We're talking about
a man who recorded at least 70 albums before 1970. If you're not already
buying his albums, just go straight to the Talkin' Verve compilation that
came out a few years ago. Some of his more highly regarded albums are:
Blue Note: Verve:
Back At the Chicken Shack ('60) Bashin' ('62)
The Sermon ('58) Got My Mojo Workin' ('65)
Midnight Special ('60) Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf? ('64)
Crazy Baby ('60) The Dynamic Duo (w/ Wes Montgomery) ('66)
Home Cookin' ('58) Bluesmith ('72)
None of these should be terribly difficult to find, either.
