In my experience, compilations usually write too little about the groups on
the record, and many bootleg type comps like "English Freakbeat", "Digging
For Gold" and "Incredible Sound Show Stories" are riddled with errors.
It's always better when labels like Dig the Fuzz release compilations with
liners written by band members, e.g. The Game, The Action, The Clique where
you get a first hand account of what really went on, assuming the band
member remembers/chooses to tell the truth. The other good thing is when
'zine editors like Mojo (Shindig) or Mike Stax (Ugly Things) are able to
dig these guys up and interview them. Of course, sometimes you can find a
web sites about obscure groups, such as the case with David John & the Mood:

So, as to the Sons of Fred, here's some more information from "Tapestry of
Delights" (which is also bound to be wrong).
45s:
1.Sweet Love/I'll Be There (Columbia DB 7605) 1965
2.I, I, I (Want Your Lovin')/She Only Wants A Friend (Parlophone R 5391) 1965
3.Baby What Do You Want Me To Do/You Told Me (Parlophone R 5415) 1966
A Great Yarmouth band whose singles passed largely unnoticed at the time
but are now rare and sought-after. They also recorded a 45 as Odyssey.
Sweet Love, an R&B effort, can also be heard on Pop-Sike Pipe-Dreams. It
features some raucous garage-style vocals and farfisa organ backing. The
flip side, I'll Be There, also got a further airing on the Maximum R 'n' B
CD and Trans-World Punk compilations. English Freakbeat, Vol. 3 includes
both sides of their second 45, which veered towards the poppy side of R&B
particularly the flip side which featured Hollies-style vocal harmonies.
Their final 45, Baby What Do You Want Me To Do, leant more towards pop art
and can also be heard on The R&B Scene compilation.
