my mum lived in Clacton in the mid-60's, where the first 'riot' took place.
take it from her that it was all media hype. she suffered all year round
because the police got a bee in their bonnet about crowds of youths
descending on the place and accidentally breaking a window. she was there
and saw it happen. maybe a word like 'attack' was a bit too strong, and was
the first word i could think of whilst typing. but that's just the
historical fact of where bowling shoes are from, which everyone knows if
they've read the Mods! book. can i say i haven't actually got any bowling
shoes as they aren't a very 'girl' shoe, and that mod is what people want it
to be.
hell, look at Paolo Hewitt. (on second thoughts - don't)
