Now, dear boy, if you only know the Three Dog Night version of "One" you
don't really know the song. Nilsson's first album "Pandemonium Shadow Show"
is a very cool pastiche of the most current (at the time -early '68) British
influences mixed with a strong Brill building sensibility. It has some very
ambitious arrangements, particularly the multi-tracked vocals. It's a similar
approach to the one Marvin Gaye used on "What's Going On"-tons of Harry
Nilssons harmonizing extemporaneously with himself. Aside from a slightly
cringey Beatles medley (good concept, cheesy execution), I'd say that it's a
great addition to those interested in state-of-the-art pop from that period.

And, for the record, I think Cheap Trick was the finest live band of the mid
to late 70's. Much better than Nazereth. We all have our guilty pleasures.
Get yourself a copy of their first record, it'll have you screaming like a
Japanese teenager.
Kisses,
Corin
