Lionel Blair is at least as mod as some of the other shit we discuss on a daily basis - and a darn sight more interesting too. Far before his peerless televised charade work with Una Stubbs, Blair showcased a wide variety of acting skills in a range of classics. Consider the facts: Lionel featured in A Hard Day's Night as the campy choreographer. He did something rather similar in the highly enjoyable Maroc 7 (1967) - a must for fans of jewel thief/spy films (surely an intrinsically mod genre). This is to say nothing of his guest-starring role on The Persuaders as a campy choreographer - and if Cravated Playboys in Monaco is not what mod is all about then perhaps I'm in the wrong party after all. Lastly, as any Anglophile fule kno, Lionel is slang for flares, which are of increasing importance to the international modernist community as the wheel of fashion squeaks inexorably towards 1971. Which brings me rather neatly to: And another related point is that the older you get, the better you look in the more late-60's get-up than the classic Mod-era outfit....... Hmm. That's a debateable one. Have a look at aging psych geezers with long stringy hair and see if that holds true. Age means you can't get away with a lot of the nonsense you shouldn't have been attempting in the first place. Loud trousers are a young man's game if you ask me. Personally, I relish aging because the older, slightly more conservative style icons posess a deeper and more attractive sense of style: Steed, Derek Flint, Harry P, Lionel Blair... ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ______________________________________________ Faster, stronger and able to send millions of emails in one click: the new Topica site! http://www.topica.com/t/14
