>>What's the consensus on this new "Sawdust Caesar" book?
Not read it, but I got a flyer for it saying stuff like "wild seaside riots of
64" etc (where have I seen that before?) with a fictional lead character
called...Tommy (The Who video box set, anyone?).
Well, it might be alright, the author pays good attention to detail apparently,
but if you haven't got it already the Colin MacInnes' 'Absolute Beginners' is
the only Mod book to own - it says more about the scene and the culture than
anything since and it was written before Mod was even recognised in this
country!
Oh, actually, 'A Clockwork Orange' by Anthony Burgess is another excellent book
which waxes lyrical about esoteric subculture, clothes, music, youth and
violence (yes, even violence...). A bit less obvious than all that parka
palarva.
Read and enjoy!
Dorian.
