Didn't he say something like it being 'the sound of castration' or something
like that, and only believed in the highest culture. Sounds like a right
dickhead to me, and I can never quite see why people try to apply him to
things he quite clearly despised or would have despised if he'd lived long
enough (i.e. cult. studs students using Adorno to justify their favourite
band to quote a recent example on another list). Anyone who talks about
innate musical truth and gubbins like that and who can't hear it in 'Kind of
Blue' (yes, I know it's the one jazz LP everyone knows, and therefore not
that hip, but it is still absolute perfection, which I find it hard to say
about records I prefer and listen to more) - to me that just invalidates
anything they might have to say on the matter of music.
