Copied from yahoo news: Soul jazz godfather Gil Scot-Heron has been charged with drug possession and assault after police were called to attend a fight between the singer and his girlfriend, Monique De Latour. Police arrested Gil for alleged assault and took him to the station. They later found a package of cocaine in his car and added drugs charges, leaving the singer facing upto eight years imprisonment. Gil is a hugely popular performer in the UK. However, he has previously been charged for cocaine possession and been barred from entering the country. The singer's troubled present is at odds with his past life as an anti-drugs commentator on songs like Angel Dust and The Bottle, through which he urged young black America to avoid the temptations of drugs and alcohol. The singer's lawyer claims the cocaine was not his client's and that the assault charges are based on a simple domestic squabble.
