I'm fairly certain that Summer (sorry not to get back sooner, daze) is speaking of Cheapo Records. It fits the description best... I just went there for the first time last week, actually, (looking for the Pete Best Combo's "I Wanna Be There"... thansk, Bill Luther!!) and the manager, an older guy, was fairly unhelpful. They did have a wall of 45s that was inaccessible and they are right in the heart of Central (Mass Ave, East Side, as soon as you come up the T escalator next to Buzzys and then one flight down again). Contrariwise, I don't remember seeing 45s at Mars, it's a bit farther north and run by some friendly and adorable enthusiasts... Excellent store, and may be moving in the future, from what I hear...
