| Here's a question: What exactly is the diff between a cravat and an ascot?

This got me intrigued too, so I just came back from the library - It seems
that ascots are cravats too, worn folded over a double knot and held in
place with a (usually jewelled) pin, its main distinctive being wide,
puffed, square ends; other cravats until their appearance had pointed ends
which didn't usually show (ie they were hidden under the turns of the
cravat). BTW, during some time in the USA and UK TWO cravats were worn at
the same time, one black, one white. I wonder how this would look... Better
check some nineteenth century portraits.
