I seem to recall that McDonald's were refused permission to label their 
fries "chips" in England, seeing as how they bear only a passing resemblance 
to any naturally occuring food group.

Actually, the chain "Harry Salt's Genuine Fish and Chips" does offer 
American consumers a chance at vaguely UK-styled fast food. Franchise 
opportunities are currently available - at a very affordable price. Very 
very affordable.
