hey,
my name's kelli. i found this list doing an arbitrary search for
"mod music" on the web. my pal andy from london is coming
out to visit me in May for the Wire tour and promised to bring
me a crateful of records because he's wonderful. so i was
writing up my list but I kept drawing a blank... so a couple
of clicks later, here i am.
i've been interested in mod culture since i was twelve (85)
and hung out with some Christian mod kids from my parents'
church... all we ever listened to was the Specials, the Yardbirds,
and the Start- the only Christian mod band in LA =)...ah,
nostalgia...
but i've always been too "punk" to be considered "mod,"
and conversely, i've been considered too "mod" to be considered
"punk." so I exist solely on the border, feeling equally at home
and alienated in both cliques.
so far i really like what i've seen here. I do a lot of traveling
so i was delighted to read Alicia's breakdown of DC and
to hear about the state of clubs from london to NY.
here's some stats: 26 years old, female, reading mail from
work (www.nbci.com), listens to British Invasion, Northern
Soul, Motown/ Stax, lofi indie, alternative pop, power pop,
pop punk, mod,lounge, 50-70s country, garage (generally only
60s but I'm crazy about the Mummies!), traditional ska, and
80's nostalgia...I live in San Francisco, am part of an improv/sketch
comedy troupe called Johnny Kats, play drums and do a couple of
zines too.
