Since I just moved from SF to NYC and I lived in SF for 4 years let
me go through some views..

San Francisco,
San Francisco is a very nice place to live. The weather is very
interesting.. I can't give an accurate account of it because the
weather changes depending on where you are. Lets put it this way..
When you watch the weather you have a 60 to 110 temp spread for the
bay area at times. This is because the SF Penn. is usually cool
while the basins and valleys are almost deserts.. Over the Oakland
hills you will experience 100 degree weather. The winds also play a
lot into the weather and they are totally dependent on the air temp
of the mid valley region.

Culturally San Francisco has a wide variety of people. But I have to
admit its more on the Asian and Mexican tip then anywhere else I have
been.

The Social scene..
San Francisco has been called "America's Biggest Small Town" because
the fact of the matter is that people run into people all the time.
Why? Because everyone lives in the same place and people tend to do
things outside.. or use public transportation. The bars and night
clubs are all on the same streets it seems.. and more or less.. you
just become a bit more visable.. Most of the people who live in SF
are either left over hippies, wanna be hippies, trustafarians,
ravers, gay people, really gay people, really really really gay
people, softball lesbians, punk rockers, and your average wanna be
bohemian.. and now the new breed.. Idiot web people.

Whats great about SF..
The sea, the air, the sun, the fact that you have mountains all
around you and that within a 15 minute car ride you can be up on top
of the oakland hills watching the sun set on the pacific behind the
Golden Gate Bridge. San Francisco has an amazing landscape and epic
beauty.

What sucks about SF..
Every year a boatload of people looking for work come to San
Francisco. Money has really killed the city.. Not to mention
probably one of the most corrupt mayors in the united states sits
behind a wall of liberalism. The city has fallen away from DIY punk
zines and making change to basically Building lofts of for rich
yuppies.. The rent is so high now and the city has completely changed
into a place where rich web heads drive around in their midlife
crisis Z3s and tell Stanford college stories with their MBA buddies.

SF has a problem.. It grasps on the subcultures and makes a profit
off them.. its really hard to be an individual in SF.. Now that
sounds absolutely ridiculous I know.. but when you live in a city
that promote being a freak.. and an individual.. you have way to many
people trying to be individuals and it waters down the broth.. you
know what I am saying..

New YOrk..

New York is a world of its own. Fuck you.. Get out of my way.. type
of attitude either will kill you or suck you in. I like it that
people here are direct to you.. In many ways you find that
intimidating in the beginning but you learn very fast that all they
are trying to do is not waste your time or theirs. One thing I can
not stand is the fact that even though New York is a modern city many
of its inhabitants can't adjust to the new way of doing things. I
find this happening at work all the time.. It seems that many of the
places (web work) are still stuck in the old Printing ways of doing
things.. Or are trying to mix current business with new media
business.. this doesn't work.. WHile in SF people and firms are more
likely to just throw it all out to see what happens.. New York still
has a conservative business side to them.

The transportation system here is pretty cool, and I have found that
no matter what you are into in NYC there is some place that caters to
it. While in SF I found that only if it was "COOL" and "New"
according to today's pop culture.

Summary..

SF is a very great place to live.. As long as you don't let the
"Cheese Factor" or the "Cheesy People" get to you .. its great.. you
have to just block out all the left over hippy shit.. and you are
fine.. but it can be hard.. its like College.

NYC.. if SF was considered College.. NYC is real life.. No bullshit
here.. No matter what you stand for everyone fights for a piece of it
here and if you are in my way.. fuck you.. and if you aren't in my
way.. then fuck you! PAY ME!.. NYC is a true metropolis.. with many
playgrounds...

What do I do?

I choose to take advantage of both sides of the cost.. 2-3 years here
2-3 years there..
