The Jam Day

A festival celebrating the music of England's legendary band The Jam is
being held in their hometown, Woking, in the summer. The Bands official web
site are planning a series of events which they hope will become a yearly
music event in the town. Already, local radio stations and newspapers are
planning coverage of the run up to, and including the event. A documentary
is being made about the forming and planning of the event, including
coverage of the gig itself.

Commencing around midday three Woking Pubs are participating by holding The
Jam day, including video and music play of The bands music and that of other
bands of the same era throughout the afternoon. These are place's fans from
all over the world can meet around lunchtime, and prepare for the day ahead.

At 4pm there will be a huge Scooter rally around the town ( with already
over 50 participants ) beginning and ending in Stanley Road and taking in
well known 'The Jam' landmarks such as Michael's club, The YMCA, The
Cricketer's and more. Throughout the day there will be a Mod/The Jam
merchandise market with stalls from all over Britain ( including Carnaby
Street )

There is a music studio & engineer being provided for the more musical of
the fans to bring their instruments and hold their own recorded 'Jam'
session. This is planned for Sheerwater School music room which is where the
Jam were born. If there are enough submissions, there will be a Jam
memorabilia auction held at 5pm at the same venue, lasting no more than an
hour.

At 7.15pm the live music starts and top young unsigned Woking bands will
provide support. The highlight being the onstage arrival of the main act,
Europe's best Jam tribute band, who will be playing a full 2 hour live set.
A complete replica of a serious Jam night in 1981.

Everybody is invited. Rick & Bruce, who all still live in and around
Woking, are expected to make an appearance hopefully along with the Wellers
( some of whom came last time ) along with anybody who had any involvement
with the band's live or studio work. Already several of the band crew have
secured their tickets for what will certainly be Woking's biggest music
event ever, and the biggest event in the Jam history since Brighton 1982.

The festival is planned for August 12th or Sept 16th. Already nearly 100
tickets have been sold and 1200 people are expected.
