Don't go there... take it from the martyr..

But as to what's happening now.. Hmm I can only really tell you my
opinion on Graphic Design since that is what I do for a living..

Currently in Graphic design er POP design.. we have seen a Grunge
stage.. which basically was just a mixed medium look made popular by
mister David Carson.. Although many can't stand this design it really
did push the question if "readability" being key to the design. More
or less creating a brand new form of typography. Later we see a lot
of the 90's Psych design from the rave fliers.. but the rave fliers
kind of took on a life of there own and later as the Fractals just
got old.. started to mimic or even become insynch with contemporary
design or vice versa depending how you look at it. We saw an
explosion of a Japanese Pop design hybrid come out of England with
Designer Republic. Icons were reintroduced into the design world.
Germany on the other hand has always stuck to their Bauhaus, Swiss,
Dutch, and Swedish design roots of minimalism.. While England just
bit off the look and made it a lot more exciting..

Then again.. all i can say is.. America has yet to really come up
with something new in design since Grunge.. And thats a sad state of
Affairs.. I have hoped Airline Designs would come up with something.

Anyways.. back in the days of art school I did some studies on op
art.. and Bridget Riley.. But I found that what she was doing was
more of a pop sensation and a trend then anything. Hence you didn't
see much people follow in her footsteps. Op art had its day.. the
contrast and vibrations causes by contrasting lines.. it was
basically the bastardization of russian constructivism and early
bauhaus. She kind of just cranked it up to 11.. None the less I love
a lot of the work she did do.. But unfortunately it doesn't follow up
with any sort of function.. Except for maybe delivering someone a
nasty headache or epileptic fit.

But if this stuff really does interest you .. I would say take a look
at some of the works by Malavich. Though not as Trippy as Bridget
Riley.. you will recognize that his nasty use of the color wheel can
really make things jump or stand back in a composition.

None the less.. I think Herbert Beyer .. is probably one of the most
least recognized masters of design.. He invented the Universal font
which basically was the begining of Global marketing as we know it.

Time to go to bed.. Miami was fun.. shallow as fuck.. but who cares.
