The 'Modernist' movement is not a retro movement.
It is remarkable though how little post-60s 'art' is actually any good.
I'll admit though that like others here I tend to explore the art from
pre-1970, if only because it is a richer and more rewarding source.
There is so much to explore!!!
Of course this is only my perspective - I'm no expert...
But just look at the 'development' or R'n'B for example - and you'll see
what I mean!
On the other hand - listen to Pulp's 'Freaks'......

Certain art forms reached perfection - and can't be bettered - if you
see what I mean.
Cool jazz for example... Mondrian's abstract work... 19-wheneveritwas
typography... espresso.......
Where have all the jazz clubs gone? (sung to the tune of the Kinks
song....)

Nope.

Pop art is wonderful. It's not 'minimalist' - but that doesn't make it
less 'mod' or whatever.
That's also what I've said about Pulp too!
If enough modernists like Pulp - then I certainly would feel safe
calling their music 'mod' - even if it's not historically related to the
first mods choice music or whatever blah blah blah ---

ONE hrs sleep again last night I'm afraid people!
(not too many words of wisdom though...)

Feeling on top of the world though - mod is so exalting....... danced me
poor little socks off last night.................

Haven't been home actually! Not since 9am yesterday...............
Lava lamp at Pop was on and was pretty groovy - one great woman dancer
and loads of 'ex public schoolboy types' bufooning around too!

They play a fair bit of Chess soul - Marlena Shaw's wade in the water
was played........

Anyone tried The Magic Bus - it's every Friday - and sounds like it's a
great night............................
Monday's at Reggies are s'posed to be really good too.

Cheers!
Paul xx
