What happened? >> For those of you not in Boston, Mikey Dee is a local DJ and promoter who has been a ubiquitous presence on the local scene for as long as I can remember. Whenever there's a good pop show in town you just automatically save a spot up front for Mikey. He's an all around good guy and man does he love local music. Anyway, he suffered a series of strokes while undergoing heart surgery. It's a very bad scene and it has really affected a lot of people in the local scene. They are having a series of benefit shows for him in a few weeks and over 70 bands will be participating-from Buffalo Tom and Letters to Cleo to little tiny local bands. It's really heartwarming to see everyone drop whatever else was on their schedules to help support a guy who has been there for so many bands. By the way, there's a very good compilation CD that was put together by the guys in the Sheila Divine (a local favorite) It's called "Reverse The Curse" and the proceeds go to help pay Mikey's medical bills. Any fans of Boston music will know the names of the artists featured here: The Gravel Pit, Jen Trynin, Jack Drag, and even my little band the Pills. We actually donated a previously unreleased radio track live from MIT's radio station. So if anyone is curious about the engineering capabilities to be found at MIT or the direction of our next record (hint: exactly the fucking same as the last one!), it would be a sound investment. There's also a really cool track by "Master Cylinder" who did that groovy Volkswagen commercial last year where the couple is driving in the rain.
