> I totally agree with you. Its one thing download music from the net
and listen it on your computer, but its another when you find a CD in
the store, part with the readies, take it home, unrap it and play it.
Its more exciting.

That wasn't what I was talking about though - the technological
solutions will come, as will legal heaviness (the sort that'll never
kill illegal copying off, just like it's never stopped bootlegging, but
at least keeps it underground). I was just wondering what will happen
when you have kids growing up used to music being 'files' in same way as
kids today are used to CDs and find the concept of a 2 song 45 alien
(excepting those who collect 45s). Don't know if it's a good OR a bad
thing - on the one hand it would be less materialistic and less about
geeky/snobby collecting and more about taste and what you listen to - on
the other hand people would probably have less attachment, and having a
more 'disposable' approach (what's the problem when a songs just a click
away). But then maybe being emotionally attached to pieces of plastic
isn't a good thing, anyway.
Or maybe people won't get past the point of wanting to own something.
