Charles Mingus is brilliant! 'Mingus Ah Um' is an essential album for anyone's jazz collection. You might also be interested in reading his autobiography, 'Beneath The Underdog,' which is an excellent piece of Beat writing. I find much of Mingus' late 70s music to be long and cacaphonous...anyone else? The Mingus Big Band is well worth looking into. It's run under the auspices of Mingus' wife and it rocks!
