A new and interesting topic!: Who are we and why do we pay attention to this
damn list?
I don't know too much about the people on this list. I (for one) am not
a Mod. I really enjoy "Mod" music, fashion, scooters etc., but gone are the
days when I had all my thrift store suit's trousers tailored to a tight 6
inches, wore a Korean war parka, and loaded my P200 series with lights and
mirrors.
Back in college I drove that damn scooter everywhere and was always
dressed to a T. When I look back now, was I a poser? I'm sure most people
on this list would say yes, but hell I loved that shit, and I had a blast
back then in the days I called myself a "Mod." Dressing sharp, going to
shows, having little rallies with my friends- it was fun whether I was a
"Mod" or not.
Now days, I still wear a Fred Perry or a Lonsdale shirt now and then, but
that's as far as the style that I consider "Mod" goes. I'm a high school
teacher for Christ sakes. I try and stay up with new fashions, but the most
fashionable stuff I can afford is Banana Republic (whose clothes I really dig
on anyway).
I still love the old music, but in my old age I found a new liking for
all the new Britpop too. Maybe it's the Mod roots, or the fact that most
people in the U.S. have never heard of Hurricane #1, Cast, Seahorses,
Bluetones, etc., but I love that shit.
I've still got an old chromed out Lambretta in the garage, but I don't
ride anymore. I have a nice car now, and I feel too old for a scooter. I
rarely get out to rallies any more, but I can't bring it upon myself to sell
the thing.
So, I've talked about myself enough!
Do I belong on this list? Does anyone mind if I listen in and have a
word now and then? I've been a subscriber for probably 5 or 6 years, half
the time I don't read the damn thing, but once in a while it's interesting
and entertaining.
Is anyone out there in the same boat as me, or am I wasting my breath?
