Chicago is inundated with Polish immigrants and meeting one who is into
anything other than American pop is quite rare.
I do have one close friend from Warsaw who might be called "mod" within
certain circles. Although he was born there, he also lived in Italy and
then eventually Cali. So, Poland was probably not where he got his
musical and lifestyle influence. Football is pretty much the center of
every male youth's life in Poland.
Poland was pretty isolated from a lot of culture that was free to other
countries in Europe. So, in effect, unless your parents were artists
and such, you never got any European influences at all.
That being said, there are still some amazing bands out of Poland. The
Novi Singers are an amazing folk/jazz/groove group from Poland. You'll
find them on a lot of rare Euro groove comps.
