If there are any SF listers left here...
The latest casualty of the decline of the SF scene is
the In'n Out. Kirk Harper has been running this
monthly event for over three years, and has worked
hard for many years promoting other events in the Bay
Area. He has put on the In'n Out at a financial loss
for a while and can't continue to do so. His decision
to pull the plug at the end of the year is ultimately
based on uneven/low attendance and a general apathy on
the part of what's left of the SF scene. I've heard
numerous complaints from SF mods about nothing to do,
but when there is something to do everyone sits home
and talks about 'the old days' or complains that this
or that event isn't 'pure enough' or some other
sectarian drivel. If people were to remember the 'old
days', at least the ones I remember, we'd go to
everything we possibly could. The other half of being
a cool mod is about being on the go - you know,
getting out and dancing and making thing 'happen' -
not just posing in your mirror. Also, so what if the
In'n Out is on a tuesday night - um, is that really
that big of a challenge to people? We all get up and
go to work the next day - take some ibuprofen or
something if you're worried about a hangover. Drink
coffee in the morning if you're worried about being
tired. Anyone wanna argue about this? Go on... Yeah,
I'm bitter about this. I've been doing this for 18
years and haven't lost a drop of enthusiasm. What's
your story? Oh, and there's an In'n Out Nov. 7 - go to
it...and tell friends - maybe Kirk'll change his mind.
