Well, I'm from Cleveland originally, and haven't really done the Detroit
thing in 3-4 years (it used to be only 2 hours from home....now it's 11...)
Last I was up that way, we messed around in Detroit for the afternoon before
realizing once again that the action lays across the Ambassadors bridge in
Windsor. Of course the usual Canadian border town procurements of duty-free
booze and mad gambling (well, it's just gambling when you start: it's mad
gambling the next morning when you look in the old wallet!). I wish I could
be of more assistance, but all I remember of my youthful weekend visits are
distant bursts of semiautomatic weapons, car loads of 19 year old kids
hitting the border, and a certain friends <1983 chevy citation> getting
stolen from Hamtramck. Scene wise, there was never any pronounced "mod" or
"60's" scene there, although there were a few Mod cats 30 mins west of
downtown in Ann Arbor who were in the Jedi Knights Scooter Club, and at the
time (now defunct likely, but I'd be happy to be corrected) Ambassadors
Scooter Club (a Detroit/Windsor "international" Scooter club). If you have no
contacts whatsoever, my post was probably a waste of time. But I suggest you
concentrate your research efforts to the aforementioned regional scooter
clubs for leads. On a similar subject, I'll be in Cleveland for 5 days around
Christmas visiting family, so if there are any Detroit/Windsor/Cleveland/Etc.
people in town around Christmas, please let me know so the highlight of my
trip isn't "childhood memories" (yikes).
All right
Mike Z
