Well don't - I must have spend a few hundred quid on something this year
and while it was mostly old stuff (whether original vinyl or new comps -
the Universal Sounds 'NuYorica Roots' and 'New Orleans Funk' ones being
the best) it was at least 30% good new stuff, and not all of it, like
the Cosmic Rough Riders album (one for the Big Star fans), sounding like
it could have been made 30 years ago. Not that I can suggest anything
that might appeal but who cares about the charts; most of the 60s music
we're into wasn't succesful then. If you like the new Radiohead LP, dig
out some of the Warp records stuff they say they were inspired by (not
heard 'Kid A', being snobby and distinterested about Radiohead, but I
seem to have bought a few things on Warp this year - the United States
of America tribute of the Broadcast album being of them).
