Yep, part of my English degree is sociolinguistics, and there's some very interesting studies been done about e-mail lists! Analyses of e-mail lists have shown that men 'speak' on e-mail lists the same as they do in verbal conversation - dominating discussions, trying to silence women, taking over threads begun by women, ridiculing threads begun by women about women's concerns (hair do advice, for example), etc. etc. Doesn't sound like the Modslist....? what do you think? i don't think this is as irrelevant as it sounds! it's interesting to understand the sociolinguistics we're working with here! Chris said: >How did everyone interpret the ending to "Quadrophenia"? >a) Did Jimmy jump off and toss the scooter off the cliff just before it >went over as a symbol of his denouncing his affiliation with Mod >or >b) Did he go off the cliff with the scooter thus committing suicide? someone else said that the beginning is the end - although i hardly think he jumped off the cliff and the beginning is him walking along the beach! Beachy Head, just outside Brighton, where the end scene is shot, is a notorious suicide spot, and if you jumped off that cliff, even on a scooter, let's just say, you wouldn't be walking along the beach afterwards unless as a ghost! I think he throws the scoot off, and then walks away across the clifftop. He walks into the camera, and the film begins - basically, it's as if the film is one huge flashback. in my opinion, anyway.... By the way, i'm 22 today, and I got Jonathan Ross on BBC Radio 2 to play The Quik's 'Burt's Apple Crumble'. Hoorah! Forcing good music on the ears of British radio listeners! _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web.
