is this a joke? far be it for me to point out that mod is a 'youth'
subculture, which means that it is for kids, not grey haired old farts...
still, Absolute Beginners is a damn cool book...
Some things in life are the epitome of style and sophistication, and as far
as i can see, there hasn't been a youth subculutre since mod (if we take it
to mean sharp styling in a late 50's/ early 60's way) which appeals to me in
the slightest! and as i believe i live in a free country (Tho' sometimes i'm
not so sure), i shall dress how i want, listen to what music i want, and
describe myself in whatever terms i like.
So... i shall call myself a mod. it best sums up where i'm at.

Nope, it stands for Mod, which is neverchanging.
Thank you, Mr Lawton.
Mod, the word we've been bandying about here, comes from 'Modern Jazz',
which was to differentiate from Trad Jazz (which is where you see the two
being played off against each other in Absolute Beginners - the Trad fans in
their scruffy jumpers and dodgy facial hair, the Mod fans in their sharp
threads).
And if further proof is required, please turn to that new book on mod by
Terry Rawlings.
And if even more proof is required, please buy some decent Jazz records -I'm
sure that Mr Rossi will advise.
Remember the mantra - Bix Beiderdeck sucks, Miles Davis is god (but he did
have the occasional off-day, it must be said).
(but seeing as the word 'mod' has been used to describe almost anything
youth-like, this argument will go on and on and on through the echoing
reaches of infinity...)
