Qonline: Paul Weller is to put down his guitar in March and take to the decks on his own radio show. BBC Radio 2 has signed up the singer to host six shows in the Vinyl Classics series, giving fans a deeper insight into the man’s musical musings. Weller will be selecting favourite songs from the enormous collection of vinyl 45's he’s collected throughout his life, consisting largely of soul, jazz and R'n'B. The first programme sees Weller paying tribute to Curtis Mayfield, playing the late singer's hits and recalling his own meetings with him. "The first time I met Curtis Mayfield was at a hotel in London", Weller reminisces, "he was sitting cross-legged on his bed like a little Buddha. He seemed to radiate a spiritual force, and he was one of the few people I've met, who when he said 'peace and love' to you, he meant it". Other highlights will include a rare live James Brown duet with Lyn Collins and the northern soul classic, At The Top Of The Stairs, by The Formations. Weller summed up the forthcoming series by concluding, "I'm going to be playing some of my favourite soul, jazz and R'n'B records - all classics to me and the sort of thing I jump around my living room to." The series begins on Wednesday 26 March at 10pm ____________________________________________________________ T O P I C A -- Learn More. Surf Less.
