Now here's something to talk about!  The early recordings of David 
Bowie!  In my opinion Bowie's material from the 60s is ace, and worth 
getting.  The recordings from the Mannish Boys and David Jones & The 
Lower Third are easily accessible, as are the recordings from his Deram 
period.  The Pye box is worth tracking down only if you don't already 
have the 'Early On' release which has all of this material.  Although it 
gets bashed for being too Anthony Newley-esque, "I Dig Everything" is a 
great song!  I have been heavily into the Decca/Deram period as of late 
as this was his more experimental phase recording brilliant pieces like 
"Silly Boy Blue", "Let Me Sleep Beside You", "She's Got Medals", and 
"Join The Gang".  Also worth finding are the singles he wrote for others 
during this period like "Over The Wall We Go" by Oscar on Reaction, 
"Silver Treetop School For Boys" recorded by the Beatstalkers and the 
Slender Plenty, as well as Billy Fury's version of "Silly Boy Blue".  
There is some unreleased material that pops up once in awhile like the 
powerful "That's A Promise" and "London Bye Ta-Ta".  You may also want 
to check out the recently released 'Bowie At The Beeb' double CD, just 
the opening version of "In The Heat Of The Morning" featuring the 
almighty Alan Hawkshaw on organ and legendary jazz guitarist and former 
Georgie Fame & the Blue Flames and Graham Bond member John McLaughlin on 
guitar is worth the price alone!
