Hello,
With regard to the various Mods mailing lists, a few things worth noting.

Firstly, the standard of this list diminished rapidly a while back, hence a
number of new lists suddenly appeared. As the standard here hasn`t improved
drastically there`s still a need for other lists.

Secondly, a number of the new lists were set up for a specific purpose, not
necessarily to replace Modlist (most people are still on here lurking even if
they rarely post). The initial brief of the Northern Mods, if I remember
correctly, was as a means of communication within the Northern UK scene,
nothing more than that. There is a more diverse mix on the list than purely
Northern UK, perhaps because the list doesn`t necessarily stick yo topics that
are based on location. But that was it`s purpose. The new British Mods list
seems to be a forum for the UK scene in general, again, not to replace this.

Thirdly, I agree that to start new lists just for the sake of it is pointless.
It just dilutes/doubles up discussion, and if you are on more than one, and if
someone decides to promote something on all the lists, you tend to get the
same email 7 times!!!!

But I suppose at the end of the day, a list lives and dies by it`s subscribers
and the quality of discussion. If it`s crap and of no interest, it`ll fade
away. Almost like evolution, the strongest will survive!!! But having one list
has been tried in the past, and it didn`t work, so it`s inevitable that there
will be multiple lists for some time in the future!!!
