Dear All,

My sincere apologies to those who may have been affected by a virus in my computer the
last couple of days. My apologies to those who I in turn may have affected
unintentially in the last 24 hours. A big thankyou to Jason for eradicating the
horrible little bug.
Anyone who has sent me messages in the last 2 days please can you send em again

To all of you that received a virus from me, sorry but I have the
solution.
Run a recent virus checker. If it is Norton ensure you go on-line
and update it now!
If it shows up 3 files
KERN32.EXE - this is a virus, it should be in your
WINDOWS/SYSTEM Folder
hksdll.dll - As above
INETD.EXE - As above

Your Virus killer should sort out INETD.EXE but will not be able to
delete the others.

So, get a floppy disk.
Insert in A: Drive
Go to Control Panel
Go to Add / Remove Programs. Double click
Select Startup Disk tab
Press Create Disk (this can take a while).

The infected files may differ on your PC. If so:
Goto Search... in Start Menu
Select - For files and Folders
Insert file names and search for files (ensure you check
Advanced options box - check all subfolders)
Make note of file names and location

With Startup Disk in A: drive re-boot machine
You will see a start menu.
Select Start without CD support

You will now see A:>
Type c:

You will now see C:>
Assuming the files are the same as mine type
C:\windows\system

You will now see C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\>

Type attrib -r -a -s -h KERN32.EXE (or your filename)
Press enter

You will now type del KERN32.EXE (or your filename)

Type attrib -r -a -s -h hksdll.dll (or your filename)

You will now type del hksdll.dll

If INETD.EXE exists on your hard drive then do the same for that
if your virus killer did not sort it out first time.

I know it's long winded but you have got to do it...

The virus may have invaded your registry so now type scanreg
command

Your screen should be blue with a number of dates.

Go back to about 09/09/01 and restore.
This should sort it out.

Remove disk from A: and restart. All should be well.
