I hate myself for being a 'spell-checker, but may I ask you to please spell
Mr.Townshend's name correctly? As well, it would be of utility to quote the
song correctly, but we won't get into that.
Have a lovely day & don't sweat it.

See, you do these things just to see who the anal
retentive fanboys are, and who's cool about the
pragmatics of friendly conversation, i.e., "knowing
what people mean" (cf. "B-4"). I can only imagine
what any listserve archive might yield in the way of
misspellings, or, at any rate, typos, as I believe
such egregious errors are typically not so much the
result of ignorance as of haste (in typing, in
proofreading, in factchecking), but ...
But you, Thaddeus, would be better off working on your
own syntax than worrying about others' typos, esp. in
the fast 'n' furious world of online communication.
"As well" at the beginning of a sentence? The
torturedly sniffy formality, not to mention just plain
bad writing, of "It would be of utility"? Although
that split infinitive @ "to please spell" is
acceptible common usage, I suppose ...
Which reminds me, Thad, do remember to close your
quotes there: 'spell-checker.' Of course, if you're
American, those single quotes (vs. "spell-checker")
are an Anglophilic affectation which, while par for
the course here, I'm sure, remains an affectation
nonetheless. And do take a listen to what's exclaimed
before those final chords ...
No, I'm not normally an asshole about such things,
either, TDR. But Steve I can kid 'cos we're "fick as
fieves," as "they" say, whether or not he's figured
that out already. And everybody else, pardon Thad 'n'
me here, there's obviously some misunderstanding
between us. I'm sure we'll be larcenously latitudinal
as well. Okay, now that we've got that out of the way
...

... and, no, capital-letter Great Lit'rachure the
Tolkien oeuvre ain't (if I may wax conversational
here), Mervyn Peake's Gormenghast books being,
apparently, the fantasy trilogy of choice amongs yr
lit crit set (e.g., Harold Bloom, The Western Canon),
but, hey, we likes what we likes, what can we say ...
Which reminds me, what would one find in yr average
Merton Parka Library (if I might make a more properly
Literary allusion)? What constitutes essential
reading for the In Crowd, anyone? Let me know ...
But might I remind you, sir, that we are communicating
via a medium nigh unto propelled by, as you put it,
"the enthusiasm of geek power," or, at any rate, the
power of geek enthusiasm and/or enthusiast geekiness?
Which makes us then ...
Keep in mind, one person's French EP collection,
meticulously tailored side vents and painstakingly
accessorized Vespa GS might well to another be the
very signifiers of irredeemable geekdom. I'm sure
it's easy to find stones to cast on those otherwise
unaccomodating British beachfronts, but ...
Relativistically yrs,
