====
   Note -- this may be important, I am building this via
remote ssh login. The first go'round noticed an error message
from my ssh client that it was unable to forward an incoming
X11 request as I wasn't running an X11 server.  I made sure
DISPLAY was unset before running it again and got the above.

I _tried_ running my an oldish X-server made by Hummingbird,
but came up with the same (or a similar) set of failed tests where
I had to press control-d to get through tests.

It's a bit mystifying that Readline would want or need "X" to
do testing (does it need a particular version or vendor specific
feature set of "X"?) It's equally a bit odd why it would be
wanting interactive user response but giving me no clue what
it wants me to type in...*sigh*...

Thanks,
Linda
