I don't think that you can build any released version of perl (as shipped) on
FreeBSD 7.0 or 7.1 (as shipped). However, it should work with the FreeBSD 6.x
compatibility libraries installed.

The FreeBSD porters tweaked the FreeBSD hints file to make it work on FreeBSD
7.x, but removed some things that were needed for older versions of FreeBSD
that they don't support any more, but perl would still build on.

However, we have now found someone with a suitable machine to test it, and
sufficient time and knowledge to fix it, and we now have a hints file that
works everywhere. So please replace the file hints/freebsd.sh in the core
distribution with the attached file, and then try building.
