I think a better analogy is considering whether you _could_ use the bolt you have a drill bit for, or whether it's worth the cost of buying/making a new drill bit. It's only a preference, after all. ;) That said, and even though I just installed a dozen new machines will perl 5.8.8 (It's the default with RedHat 5), I agree it's not worth worrying about here.
