I think the broader point is that using ExtUtils;:MakeMaker directly and writing to it "by hand" in the Makefile.PL is fading in preference to using front-ends like Module::Install or Dist::Zilla to make EU::MM less painful to use and extend. I know that's a generalization, but I suspect it holds true for many or most of the higher volume authors and/or jointly-managed projects. -- David
