rationale:
The module implements the NTLM authentication protocol as used by
IMAP for Exchange servers and their like. The code is a direct port
of the fetchmail (and, hence, SMB) code that performs the same task.
The code implements the various algorithms directly in perl making
the module more easily portable than using a C code stub would, and
yet it still performs very fast enabling the authentication
mechanism to be established with no significant delay to the user.
