* This is the modus mailing list *

Hi Guys,

I noticed that there have been a few questions about the extended db format
on the list the past couple of days. I hope this clears up a few questions
for you:

1) Modus' core architecture (minus the scanning functions) is still the same
as VOPMail's, so it still supports the same database structures as before: a
generic 4-field table, the extended table, Rodopi, Plat, Ecobuilder, etc.,
and now we've added Logisense to the list. Basically, we'll support just
about any structure so long as it's ODBC based.

2) If you have a version of ModusMail that includes any of the scanning
options, you can continue to use a generic database or whatever billing
package you have now.

If your particular billing db does not have any scanning controls built-in
(for spam / virus / attachments), these functions should be configured in
the Modus console.

3) If you do wish to use the Extended db format, we've made a few changes
and added some new fields to support the new functions coming up in version
3. As before, we'll be placing copies of updated SQL scripts and the Access
db on our site so that the new structure can be loaded automatically.

As I write this, the updated scripts have not yet been placed on our
website, but that will be done this week. We'll post any update information
to the list regarding when the new scripts will be available for download
and where to find them on our site.

4) The Extended db structure is hard-coded, so the same rules apply as
before: the table name must be "vopmail," the columns must be created in a
specific order, and the structure should be put in place first before
upgrading Modus. More detailed information is included in the existing
how-to on our site, but keep in mind that the current links to the SQL &
Access scripts haven't been updated yet, so they still point to the old
ones.

Subject: [Modus] Upcoming VopMail to ModusMail L Upgrade

Hi all,

I'm of course going to test this on a test workstation before I go
live, but I thought I'd get some feedback from the list as well.
A previous post alerted me that ModusMail only supports the extended
database format - is this true? If so, have they made it a little more
flexible, or are the columnn names still hardcoded?
I'm discussing getting my email authentication integrated into my
billing application, so this is definitely a significant question before
I turn them loose on the integration project.
