I was getting the following in the Event Viewer: aspnet_wp.exe could not be started. HRESULT for the failure: 80004005 Apparently, if you have it installed on a Domain or Backup Domain controller, the ASPNET user does not have the proper permissions to run the worker process (actually, it tries to use the local machine account). In my case, I was running it on a backup domain controller, and I modified the machine.config to allow it to run under the System account.
