Just wanted you to know that we have
resolved the issue with the access DB for Sieve data, growing & growing. We created a batchfile to stop the
ADM service, call a VB Script to compact the DB, and then restart the service. I created an AT command and scheduled this to run nightly at
The problem (as I understand it) is that a Microsoft Access
database is used to store the index information for all Spam you receive. Apparently MS Access does not recover
space in the database as messages are deleted from Quarantine. So what happens is that this MS Access
Database (mailstore.mdb) grows and grows until your MM server slow’s to a crawl as ours has done many times. To correct the problem you either stop the
MM Administration service, and delete the mailstore.mdb (which causes
everyone to loose everything in their quarantine I think). Or you can stop the service, open the DB
in microsoft access, and
then select tools – compress database. Problem with these methods is that they require direct
intervention (labor). Script we created resolves this by allowing this compression
to happen automatically each night (or whenever you schedule it to happen). If you want to use this code you are welcome to it. The code needs to be modified slightly to reflect the MM
installation drive for each specific installation but it works great and does
not require MS Access to be installed on the MM server. Couple words of wisdom: 1. before installing this, verify
that you have room (disk space) as this will require slack space at least equal
to the size of your mailstore.mdb file. 2. notes about this are included in
the compact.bat
batchfile Works for us but use at your own risk. Thanks. <don President R & D Industries, Inc. |
