[Modus] spam directory

i have over 55,000 messages in my spam directory under the vopmail/spool. I have never had over 365 that i know of. what could cause this. could it be held there becaus of rbl lookups? I use only spamhaus.org and have that as a zone in my dns and secondary dns vince
