It would be helpful if we could go to a web page to figure the date of the latest virus definitions.

That way ...if we are in doubt...we could verify we have the latest version or not visually. It is not perfect but is a much better clue no clue.

If you are experiencing problem getting the Virus updated, please follow
these following steps. This is a temporary workaround.

STEP-1 Try "soft-stopping" the services to force the update.

Try stopping moduscan
Try stopping modusadm
Start both services
Do an update now.

If you get an error message, try step-2

STEP-2 Try "hard-killing" the services to force the update.

Try stopping moduscan
Try KILLING modusadm

To kill modusadmin, you can get the kill command here:
http://www.vircom.com/supteam/kill.exe. Put it in your windows or winnt
folder then invoke it from a DOS command line:

kill modusadm

Start both services
Do an update now.

If it still fails, try setp-3

STEP-3 Check to see if you have an AVUPDATE process in task manager

Check in task manager, is there a process AVUPDATE?
If there is, kill it with the same kill tool downloaded in the previous
step
Try KILLING modusadm
STOP Moduscan
Start Modusadm and Moduscan
Do an update now.

If it still fails,

STEP-4) Do a reboot to force an update.

Shutdown and reboot the server.
Do an update now.

Notify us ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) which step fixes the issue. We're
recording every instance this happens to better understand why some
customers are having difficulties with the Virus update.

To all customers,

We have received complaints from some customers about an error received
from the auto-update and the Update Now function. We are currently
investigating the problem and will be posting the result of our finding.

In the mean time, we believe the problem is caused when Modus tries to load the new Virus definition. It appears that a file(s) may be locked by the OS or other processes. Some customers have fixed the problem by stopping and restarting Moduscan and ModusADM. Others have fixed the problem by rebooting their servers.

Support department will be posting more information on how to correct
the Update process.

We take this problem very seriously and will keep posting new
information to the list until we get a final resolution.

Regards,

p.s.
