Usually that's a malformed email that won't deliver or it is a long attachment that is timing out. The mail server will store the emails in front of that bad email and keep delivering them over and over. It will continue to do so until the offending email is either downloaded or deleted. They can go into webmail and delete from there or you can do it manually.
