The above, and the fact that there is no libpython2.7.so in the
library directories, or linked into 'python' executable shows that
your Python installation was NOT configured and built with shared
library enabled. In other words, the only option supplied to
'configure' when Python was built was that '--prefix' option. When
your Python is configured and installed you should be doing in the
Python source directory:

  make distclean
  ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/python-2.7.1 --enable-shared
  make
  sudo make install
