Thanks for the feedback.

What are your thoughts on a good logging solution beyond apache error log
for daemon threads?  I would like to emit events (json encoded one per
line) such as when a given user logs in, starts a purchase, has an
exception, or other stuff.

  I can get great analytics from this data using splunk but need a better
mechanism for writing messages in a contention-free way.  Before examining
heavyweight tools more closely do you have any thoughts?
