Hi Graham Thanks for your comprehensive answer. I didn't know precisely what happened when a 'restart' or 'graceful' call is made to Apache so that information is very helpful. You've hit the nail on the head. etckeeper shows that the library noted above (part of libc6) was updated last Thursday. I'll have to make sure I do a proper 'stop' then 'start' of Apache in future.
