Should not have anything to do with differences between Python 2 and Python 3.

Where are the files init.py and dbconnect.py located? What else is in that 
directory?

Have you verified that mod_wsgi is using the correct Python version? You can do 
this by printing out sys.version from the WSGI script file and looking in 
Apache logs.
