I have to confess I still judge distances in miles and do use inches sometimes if it is easier to read off the tapes measure and I have just bought a 42inch TV. It is just that I forced myself to think in centigrade and think it more sensible. A US friend once said to me that "your (imperial) gallon is 5 quarts!" I just looked it up on Wikipedia and it goes on in a lot of detail but essentially the imperial gallon is equivalent to the old ale and beer gallon and the US to the wine gallon and the sub divisions of each, an Imperial pint is 20oz and a US pint is 16 oz.
