Further to chips. The cheapest I remember was 3d for chips and 6d for fish. An Auntie of mine remembered 1/2d for chips and 1/2d for fish.
'French Fries' were invented in Wiltshire because they had the Devizes to Chippenham. Battered fish were introduced by the Jewish Community in London.
