Apologies Brian but only just got back in today
We have been moving the MOG down from Sotmogshire to the south
coast having at last had an offer (a low one at that but at least its
an offer) on the house
LIke you I used to use Lotus and before that Supercalc and
still find things in excel made difficult that in Lotus were simple
As others have said Open Office is a package worth
considering - I have it on the MAcPro
Work dictates excel and I have all my daily reports running
from the mainframe databases as extracts into Access and then link the
queries into excel
The ability to program the macros in VBA does mean that you
can tailor things to make life easy ( as long as you are doing the
same task over and over again)
Push one button each day and I have all my performance figures
Push another and every hour I get an update on the warehouse
performance - as my team found out to their cost when one night they
decided to take things easy and I am sat at home monitoring them :-)
Best Regards
Colin

I used to use Lotus to
invert large matrices but have never mastered it using Excel. Any
clues?

Yes its scandalous that not all of us bought a Morgan so we could spend
hours underneath it.
What next a test to prove worthiness of ownership
Perhaps only those of us who
have advanced excel skills should be allowed to operate PC's ;-)
Come on guys - Miscellany content is one thing but
criticising the wrong sort of people for owning a Morgan
We all have different reasons for buying the car - mine was a 30 year
dream coming to fruition and the fact that my wife wanted an open top
sports car and the Honda and BMW dealers treated her as if she didn't
exist.
She then saw a Morgan and said now thats what a real sports car should
look like and the rest is history result one happy man !
And I certainly wont apologise for not having the skills that many have
